Egalitarian questions the idea that equality truly exists in contemporary societies.

Egalitarian is a reflection on the idea of equality as a political and social promise that is often not realized. The title is a reference to the idea that all individuals within a society should have the same rights, status, and opportunities.

With a minimal performative act, the work challenges the idea of equality with the reality of social structures of difference, exclusion, and power imbalance. The body of the artist becomes a space where the tension between the idea of equality and the reality of difference is played out.

Rather than a narrative, the video is a visual statement. For the duration of the work, Egalitarian poses the question of whether equality is possible within a system that is inherently political, economic, and cultural imbalance.

Like much of Entekhabi’s work, there is a level of irony in the simple act that is performed, which is reflected upon.
