GLUB operates between film and installation, situating itself within a space where narrative is suspended and attention shifts toward duration, gesture, and perception. The work unfolds through fragments of everyday situations, in which actions appear both familiar and estranged. Rather than constructing a linear storyline, the piece develops through a sequence of moments that resist resolution, allowing meaning to emerge gradually through observation.
Developed in collaboration with Mieke Bal, the work engages with migration not as a fixed subject, but as an aesthetic condition embedded in the act of seeing and being seen. Displacement occurs not only through movement across space, but through subtle shifts in context, framing, and temporality. The viewer is invited into a mode of attention that oscillates between recognition and distance, where the ordinary becomes charged with ambiguity. In this sense, GLUB establishes a framework in which cinematic language is expanded into a spatial and conceptual experience
PROJECT CONTEXT
A filmic series developed in collaboration with Mieke Bal (2004–2005).
GLUB is part of the broader research project “Loops & Gaps,” developed in collaboration with Mieke Bal. The project explores migration as an aesthetic and perceptual condition, moving beyond representation toward a form of visual thinking.
The work was presented in exhibition contexts where film operates spatially, allowing viewers to navigate between image, duration, and meaning.
