Looking for M can be seen as an investigation between the poles of observation, encounter, and projection. The work follows the path through the region of Cuauhtémoc in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It tracks the presence of the Mennonite community and the complex structures of their visibility.
The work does not portray the community; instead, it engages the space between perception and access, revealing the ways in which the community is represented through images and cultural projections. The search for the community becomes a movement through space and a conceptual exploration of the limits of representation.
The encounter is partial and fragmented. The camera observes, tracks, and lingers; it is a position between inside and outside. In this sense, the work creates a space where knowledge is constantly deferred.
Looking for M can also be seen as an extension beyond the work as a film; other materials have been included, such as interviews and a cartographic interface.
Exhibition Installation: Aves en la luna
As part of the exhibition Aves en la luna at Casa del Lago, Mexico City, the project was expanded into an installation environment.
The space reconstructs an imagined private interior of the central figure, extending the narrative of the film into a spatial and psychological dimension. Positioned between fiction and reality, the installation situates the character within a constructed domestic setting, reflecting on projection, role-play and the staging of identity.
Research
These materials function not as documentation, but as parallel layers of investigation, offering fragmented perspectives on identity, territory and visibility.
